Welcome! Edit

Congratulations on starting Tardis Test Wiki! It's a brand new project, so it needs a lot of love. Here are five tips to make your wiki great.
  • It's all yours right now -- enjoy it! Once your wiki takes off, lots of people will read what you write. Right now, nobody's looking over your shoulder yet, so feel free to try things out and make mistakes.
  • Make lots of short pages! The hardest thing about writing is looking at a blank page and not knowing where to start. It's a lot easier once you write down your first couple sentences. So take a deep breath, and jump in -- make ten really short pages, one right after another. Once you've started, you can build the pages up slowly, adding a little bit at a time.
  • Link your pages together! Links help you and your readers get from one page to another, so whenever you mention the subject of another page, use the "Add a Link" button to make a link to that page. You should also use the front page to link to all of the most important pages on your wiki. Describe what your wiki is about on the main page, and include links to help your readers find their way around.
  • Add pictures! A well-chosen picture can make a bland wiki page come to life. When you're writing a page, use the "Add a Picture" button to upload a picture from your computer onto the page.
  • When you're ready -- tell your friends! Once you've started a bunch of pages, linked them together and added some pictures, you'll be ready to start showing off your wiki to the world. You probably know people who are interested in the same thing that you are, so tell your friends to check out your new site. Those are your first readers and potential contributors, so give them lots of encouragement.

A good way to stay up-to-date with the latest news and events around Wikia is to visit our Staff blog. If at any time you get stuck, feel free to write to us through our contact form -- we're happy to help!

Have fun!

Bob Edit

Thought it was best to contact you here, instead of at TARDIS. We have a problem with Bob - again. He does not seem to under than headings so be in sentence case, and also seems to think he is superior in editing to other Users, since his English, by the sounds of thing, is apparently 'the best on the wiki'.

I am considering blocking him- again. I have suggested that he could suggest to Users way to improve their English/grammar, and also he mentioned something about the MOS been written poorly and that's the reason he seems not to read it. He also wants to rewrite it. We need to do something ASAP, before it gets out of hand. I have a feeling he's going to do something. MM/Want to talk? 13:11, April 10, 2012 (UTC)

I don't want to start this again, but you should see what he wrote on Cyruptsaram's talk page. He's starting it again. MM/Want to talk? 00:05, July 16, 2012 (UTC)

BobEdit

I feel dirty now, but it needs to be discussed. Also don't forget Azes13, since he has spoken to Bob before (if memory serves). --Revan\Talk 20:12, July 16, 2012 (UTC)

Blanking stuffEdit

Still got some ways to go there then, I just tried blanking Female anchor 3...and could do it. What was meant to happen? --Tangerineduel / talk 16:29, April 5, 2013 (UTC)

There are limits on what I can do with it, since Wikia have changed the way categories are handled. What's happening on that particular article is that the categories aren't deleted by a simple page blank, unless you've changed your Special:Preferences to turn off the category module. Thus, enough of the page remains that it's not considered a page blank.
czechout@fandom    16:38: Fri 05 Apr 2013

TwitterEdit

Sure. Though I have been doing it in this "bulk" way for a while. But I'll try to spread them out a little bit more. --Tangerineduel / talk 16:52, April 22, 2013 (UTC)

Possible spoiler Edit

Hi! I have a question that I didn't want to ask on the main wiki. SmallerontheOutside has a sandbox page that contains spoilers for the 50th anniversary. I only found out because his recent edit to it showed up on the "wiki activity" list, where anyone interested in SOTO's projects can click on it. I didn't want to say anything to him yet because I wasn't sure if the rules apply to sandbox pages. Thanks! Shambala108 (talk) 03:08, July 16, 2013 (UTC)

Should I remove it or ask him to remove it? Also, I will block him if you think I should, but how long should the block last? Shambala108 (talk) 03:33, July 16, 2013 (UTC)

Re: a favor Edit

I'm definitely willing to keep an eye on spoilers, but I do have a technical issue (or two).

  • I don't seem to have the ability to physically close forum posts, or at least, I don't know how. Can you explain it for me?
  • I have an issue with a user I have blocked multiple times for violations of the discussion, vandalism, and spoiler policies. I always block him for 6 months, but he's always able to return within a few days. I assume it's the same person because not only are the IP addresses similar, but his edit behavior is always the same.

Regarding your talk page, I know at least once that SmallerontheOutside removed a spoiler, but there are a couple of posts from wiki people asking you about special events. If you like, I can "de-spoiler" them and post them here.

While I have your attention :) there is one thing I left on your talk page that I will repost here:

I've been working on the speedy renames, but when I remove the tag from the page, the page is still listed on the speedy rename page.

For example, I've already changed "456 Ambassador" to 456 ambassador. The first one is still blue-linked on the speedy rename page, and the second one is still red-linked, as if it were not created yet.

For some reason, removing the tag doesn't remove it from the speedy rename page for several days. It makes it a bit tedious to sort through which pages on the list still need renaming. Is this a fixable glitch?

I had a couple of minor questions, but they escape me for the moment. Anyway, thanks! Shambala108 (talk) 18:25, September 2, 2013 (UTC)

Hang on a bit with your talk page, I want to take a closer look at it. And be careful with the IP blocks, most of the blocks come from Howling posts. Shambala108 (talk) 22:12, September 2, 2013 (UTC)
OK, I checked your talk page and it's clean. The only spoilery post was at "Doctor Closet Confidential", but the spoiler was removed.
I checked the forums, and I do see the "close thread" button. I've searched all over those pages and never saw it before, I must need my eyes checked.
About the IP user, I've blocked lots of IP users since spoiler day, but his address always starts 92.15.
Thanks for checking on the speedy rename. Shambala108 (talk) 22:25, September 2, 2013 (UTC)

IP user" Edit

"Wow, you've been really busy blocking" Yeah, let's just say that some users try to sneak the spoilery stuff in whatver way they can, and they do get pretty creative.

The IP user in question always starts with 92.15. Some specific dates are: Aug 31, 30, 25, 24, 23, 16. The reason I know it's the same person is because he has several of the same editing habits. Shambala108 (talk) 22:56, September 2, 2013 (UTC)

Actually, the only blocks I've done at the Howling are 92.15's. He removed someone's post and I warned him, thinking it could have been a mistake, but he's done it at least twice since then. I blocked him for that, and when he alters posts against the discussion policy, I block him for that because he was supposed to be blocked anyway.
Most of my main namespace blocks are spoilers, people trying to sneak in prohibited info, but there've also been a couple of cases of vandalism and personal attacks. But by far it's spoilers. When we are done with the specials, I figure we won't have as much trouble with blocks. Shambala108 (talk) 02:01, September 3, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, there will always be spoilers, but I've never seen such determination to go against spoiler policy, even by users who know better.
Anyway, the new font is very pretty, but for me it's a bit small. I don't know if it's possible to make it about the same size as the main wiki, but I do like it. Shambala108 (talk) 02:26, September 3, 2013 (UTC)

Favours and awayEdit

That makes two of us.

I've also not been around as frequently as I've been in the past, I mentioned a while ago when we chatted that was due to various things. Basically those various things snowballed and to be quite vague a lot of stuff happened where I wasn't really able to put my attention into the wiki. I'm still mostly lurking, but keeping an eye on things. Editing here and there, but I'm not sure when I'll be back up to my standard of editing every other day. I'm still at the moment editing a couple of times a week then daily.

That you've been able to keep away from spoilers is commendable, I don't know how you've been able to do it! I used to be the staying away from spoilers type, but now, while I'm not the seeking out set photos kinda person I'll still read most stuff that turns up on Doctorwhonews.net.

From what I've been seeing Shambala's been keeping a good eye on various users and policing the policies. I've been watching from the sidelines though. While I've not been really active every so often someone sends me a message and prompts me to be a little more, so I will keep poking my head in and trying to do stuff.

Font wise, it looks like it's been set to bold a little bit. Also aren't sans-serif fonts the web standard? I think what's on the main wiki at the moment is fine. I think using the font that's on the test wiki here wouldn't...help with the information. I think clean simple, Wikipedia-like is good. Adding more a different font would detract from the information, which is the thing that needs to be clear and at the forefront.

Just looking at it between here and the main wiki, the main wiki with its clean font says to me 'good information source', the font on here...kinda says fan site.

Also, hopefully Brian Linder from Wikia has hopefully been in contact with you. --Tangerineduel / talk 14:16, September 3, 2013 (UTC)

Re: video stuff Edit

No problem, I didn't want to act real quickly, especially since I hadn't had a change to actually look at the videos he uploaded. I had already deleted a bunch of his uploaded images that failed policy.

Incidentally, I will probably never take offense when another admin overrules me, since I sometimes act too conservatively and there's still a lot I need to learn.

About Graham Dilley, I'll dig up my copy a little later and let you know. Do you want me to post it here or on the Tardis wiki? Shambala108 (talk) 19:16, September 7, 2013 (UTC)

Page protection Edit

Quick question for you. If I want to protect a page from being created (again), do I have to undelete it, then protect it? Or is there some way of protecting a page that doesn't exist (it has already been deleted). Someone has created a page for the supposed title of the next DW episode, and I've been requested to protect against it being created again. Thanks! Shambala108 (talk) 03:26, September 16, 2013 (UTC)

Trying it now. Is there a particular format for the date and time? Shambala108 (talk) 13:34, September 16, 2013 (UTC)
Done. Thanks a bunch! Shambala108 (talk) 13:40, September 16, 2013 (UTC)

Wikia visitEdit

The only things I can think of are issues we already know exist. Like the problem with using the add image button instead of the Special:Upload page and our problems with users uploading videos.

Also ask about chat, will it ever make a noise or some other alert to tell you that there're people trying to get your attention. --Tangerineduel / talk 15:01, September 25, 2013 (UTC)

F.A.B. --Tangerineduel / talk 14:40, September 26, 2013 (UTC)

Video policy Edit

Hey, I need a bit of clarification on the video policy. It obviously says that non-admins may not upload videos to the site, but are they allowed to post already-uploaded videos on articles? Thanks! Shambala108 (talk) 05:26, September 26, 2013 (UTC)

Ok, that's useful to know. Thanks! Shambala108 (talk) 17:24, September 26, 2013 (UTC)

Tardis RedesignEdit

Hey there CzechOut!

This is Kate and I wanted to get people started on redesigning the site. Is there any specific images or such that you want to use? If so, please link to it here so I can pass it along.

Thanks! Kate@fandom 17:46, October 1, 2013 (UTC)

No worries at all, thanks for getting back to me so quickly :)

Kate@fandom 17:56, October 1, 2013 (UTC)

Hey Czechout,

No pressure on the images but we do have a Design ticket in place to start with the portal images for the mainpage. I can link you to some so you get a feel for what they look like. I think they turned out great, let me know when you think you can get us the images!

Kate@fandom 22:42, October 3, 2013 (UTC)

Here are some of the image mocks, the second one features the hover over option where the image will change:

Hope you like these! We can swap out the images if you think you can have them in time, or alternatively we can give you the PSD so you can change it yourself once we're done creating these as well, your call!

Kate@fandom 16:46, October 4, 2013 (UTC)

That's really very impressive and yet quite different — in a totally awesome way — to what I thought. So is that completely the finished size? I wanna make this super easy for you, so I'm looking to give you graphics that hit that center precisely for you. Ultimately, yes, I'll need the PSD for this, but for right now, can I just take this image and throw it in Photoshop and get the exact pixel dimensions of the interior?
czechout@fandom    16:59: Fri 04 Oct 2013
ALso, what exact font is that with the TORCHWOOD label?
czechout@fandom    17:00: Fri 04 Oct 2013
Okay, I'm getting something that is roughly 367px by 372px. So basically, the images to fit into the bordering circles need to be about 375px square to fit. I'm gonna presume that's correct and start reshaping my images into that size, and hopefully have them for you in less than 2 hours, so that you can just slap 'em into place. If my math is wrong, please lemme know :)
BTW, I am totally in love with this design.

Discontinuity Edit

I expect you're tired of hearing from me by now ;) but I've had a request from someone and I want to make sure I answer them properly. The question is this: "I'm trying to start a topic in the Discontinuity Hub for Night of the Whisper and I can't for the life of me figure out how. "

There is no link for this (or any of the Destiny of the Doctors) stories on the DW audio discontinuity page. What is the best way to start this page? I thought about putting {{discontinuity}} on the story page and creating it from there, but I don't know if that would work properly under the new setup we have. Or is there a better (more correct) way? Thanks! Shambala108 (talk) 23:12, October 3, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the info, and thanks for creating this one. If it comes up again I'll try to do the next one using the instructions you provided. Shambala108 (talk) 02:46, October 4, 2013 (UTC)

Redesign buttons Edit

Using your talk page on this wiki, as I'm giving you a public link to a dropbox file and knowing that there is likely much fewer people watching edits here. :)

The buttons were made by Megan, one of our graphic designers. She gave me the PSD file, which I zipped and uploaded here. So if you have Photoshop or GIMP, you'll be able to make any changes you want, such as new buttons, resizing, etc. If you do have any trouble when the time comes to edit or make new buttons, feel free to contact me. Yes, another question Edit

Hey, I have a bit of a problem/issue/dilemma that I think is more in your line. I had to delete some videos that a user uploaded, then I left a message on his talk page letting him know policy and suggesting he use the video recommendation page. It turns out he's part of Wikia staff, and he left the following message on my talk page:

"Hello Shambala,
I saw that you deleted some videos that I posted to the wikia. That is fine, but I wanted to let you know that I am part of the Community Development Team at Wikia, and that the videos I uploaded are licensed videos passed along to me from the marketing department. If you are not interested in receiving licensed Dr. Who content, please let me know. If you are interested in the content, but would like to put it up yourself, let me know that, and I will pass the videos along directly to you."

His name is Hotsoup6891, or Nick, and maybe you know him. I don't have a problem with wikia staff uploading videos, but I see a problem. I can think of at least one user who would see this and take it as a green light to do it themselves. Also, I'm not sure if you want to take advantage of what wikia has to offer.

If you need the specifics, he uploaded three videos related to "The Doctors Revisited", and placed them on the page for "The Doctors Revisited" in gallery style at the bottom of the page.

Thanks! Shambala108 (talk) 03:05, October 23, 2013 (UTC)

problem with two users Edit

Hey, there is a problem about which I'm not too sure what to do. It concerns the issue of LegoWhovian and pipe-switching. To refresh your memory, a while back I suggested to him (her?) that it isn't necessary to pipe-switch story titles unless there are other pages with the same name. Then both you and Smallerontheoutside spoke to him in chat, and you left him a message on his talk page stating that it is against policy to pipe-switch redirects, and that he could only do so if he was creating the link or working on other things on the page as well. In short, he was not to edit pages solely to pipe-switch away redirects.

However, he has continued to do this off and on, and I've not wanted to bug you about it because it's only occasionally. Lately he has picked up the pace, and this is where the second problem comes in. SOTO left a message on his talk page, basically explaining the policy and stating why we have the policy. However, his second paragraph came across as a threat that LW would be blocked by an admin if he continues.

The reason I bring this up is because this is at least the second offense for both guys for their specific action. SOTO has been warned before not to threaten users with blocking (the Totem talk page comes to mind).

So what should I do? I'd like your advice, but if you can just give me a suggestion I can take care of it since you're so busy with the "invisible" stuff on the wiki.

Thanks! Shambala108 (talk) 19:38, October 24, 2013 (UTC)

Arnold T. Blumberg Edit

Hey,

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I will be away from the computer during that discussion tomorrow so won't be able to attend.

As far as reading his stories, they happen to be on two of the rarer ST collections, therefore the most expensive, so I don't have them (yet). In fact, some guy on Amazon is trying to sell Indefinable Magic for ten thousand dollars. Shambala108 (talk) 01:09, November 12, 2013 (UTC)

Christmas amnesty... and Benny Edit

Hey, I just wanted to clarify my stand on the Christmas amnesty but didn't want to post some of the more sensitive issues on the main wiki's forum for everyone to see.

I'm concerned with situations like our major repeat vandals. Two examples come immediately to mind. There's Doug87, who seems to have a gripe with Doug86, and there's the "Fat Controller" IP user who has specifically targeted TARDIStraveler on several occasions. I'm not sure how tenacious Doug87 is, but I know the Fat Controller has a tendency to pop up whenever his block expires. I don't think it's fair for a user like TARDIStraveler to have to be subjected to a vandal's attacks.

I'm quite aware that I am the only voice of dissent on that thread, and that this will probably go ahead anyway, but I wanted to explain myself.

Also, on another note, when you have some free time, could you visit the Dead Men Diaries thread? There seems to be a bit of a wrinkle regarding its name. I'd like to switch it over soon so I can create the in-universe article.

Thanks for your attention! Shambala108 (talk) 16:47, December 10, 2013 (UTC)

Obviously I understand what you're trying to do, and it's a nice thought. It's just that in my opinion, the costs outweigh the benefits.
Anyway, if you are going to do something to prevent/forestall the "Fat Controller", I need to be more clear about what the problem is. The user's name is not Fat Controller. It's one (or possibly more) IP user that likes to focus mostly on the Controller (Bad Wolf) page, sometimes on related pages. He/she likes to put references to Thomas the Tank Engine on the page and likes to insert the word "fat" in front of "Controller". Also, because TARDIStraveler used to revert his vandalism, he likes to leave challenging messages on TARDIStraveler's talk page (most, if not all, of these have been removed by admins). If you need any more information, you can probably check the history of the Controller (Bad Wolf) page and/or TARDIStraveler's talk page. Shambala108 (talk) 03:02, December 11, 2013 (UTC)

vandalism issue Edit

I need some help with a vandalism issue. An IP user has modified your image of the Eleventh Doctor (for the inforbox) and I don't know how to get it back. In addition, he has created an account calling himself Policy Management and claiming to be a bot, which I am 99% sure is not true, but wanted to check with you first.

Basically, MrSiriusBlack objects to the current infobox image, and tried to use another one, which both Tybort and I have reverted. Then one (or possibly two) IP users tried to put Black's image back (which had already been deleted for other T:ICC reasons). One of the IPs even removed the license from your image, which I replaced then blocked him.

Thanks and let me know if any of this is unclear. Shambala108 (talk) 17:36, March 3, 2014 (UTC)

infobox image Edit

Someone (an IP user) removed the images from the page on the basis that they were ruining the whole page and I wanted to make sure that all users were aware that they are not to remove them on that basis, since on some browsers the images aren't a problem. It won't happen again. Feel free to remove the message. Shambala108 (talk) 01:53, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

Never mind I did it myself. Shambala108 (talk) 02:14, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

Favor Edit

I don't know much about the licensing for images, so I have to ask a favor. Some of the images uploaded by user Geoff109 appear to be publicity images but the license he added is the "owner" license. Can you check for me at Special:Contributions/Geoff109. Thanks. Shambala108 (talk) 05:03, March 21, 2014 (UTC)

Doug87 Edit

Hey, I know you're too busy to answer questions, but it looks like Doug87 may be back. There was some vandalism today by an IP user, and I blocked the user, but before I did he posted on his talk page, claiming to be Doug87. If you could check that my block is enough to keep him away, I'd appreciate it. Shambala108 (talk) 20:42, April 22, 2014 (UTC)

block rationale Edit

I'm explaining my block of IP user 92.0.198.229 that you removed.

Aside from twice removing all content from your talk page (the second time after it was restored by another user), he left the following message on my talk page:

"Hey, Shambala, looks like someone got the better of chzechout, I wonder who it was?"

I don't know what was meant by "In examination with Staff tools, I see no great cause for alarm. Appears to just be having problems editing.", but if the message on my talk page is not an admission of vandalism, then I guess I'll have to change my definitions of vandalism. Shambala108 (talk) 00:37, May 23, 2014 (UTC)

SkypeEdit

Nothing's showing up for me in Skype, but I'll endeavour to be online on the main wiki or Skype or elsewhere soon, so if not on Skype then on chat or something you can enlighten me. Though, nothing's really been puzzling me relating to the wiki of late. --Tangerineduel / talk 12:07, September 15, 2014 (UTC)

Apology Edit

I apologize for my mistake. Please feel free to delete the entire post. Shambala108 (talk) 18:41, October 12, 2014 (UTC)

Need some help Edit

Hey, sorry to bug you, but I have a question regarding some edits at Tardis Date Core.

A new user has been adding a lot of information that was not previously included on pages, and, first of all, it makes me wonder if there's a reason for not including that information before (though I haven't been able to find any policies yet), and second, if the information shouldn't be there, I need to stop him/her before they waste any more time. So if you could address the following issues, that would be great.

  • DW novelisations - do they also belong in categories like "Third Doctor novels"?
  • DW novelisations - do we allow chapter counts and page counts in the infoboxes, or is that info not really necessary in the infobox?
  • DW novelisations - do we allow chapter titles in the body of the articles?
  • Novels - do we allow chapter titles in the body of the articles, specifically, after the plot section?

I have done some searching through policy pages and archived forum pages, but haven't found anything yet that would answer my questions. Thanks! Shambala108 (talk) 18:01, October 28, 2014 (UTC)

Message removed. Shambala108 (talk) 00:16, December 8, 2015 (UTC)

SlackEdit

Just wanted to say, yes, will do and hopefully I'll be online at some time to swap email addys, but may not. This past 2 years or so has been somewhat hectic for me so I've been present a lot less than I have been. I hope if not in the next few months I'll return, if not next year. --Tangerineduel / talk 07:07, August 15, 2016 (UTC)

Importing info to another wiki Edit

Hi, question for you. Is it allowed for other wikis to import pages/info from Tardis without permission? A user from Tardis (Fwhiffahder) has started a wiki called Paul Magrs Wiki and has imported dozens of pages from Tardis.

The other issue is that the main page of his wiki calls us (presumably the admins of this wiki) fascists. It's his wiki and he can do what he wants with it, but if he's taking our pages but also indulging in personal attacks against us, I was wondering if he should be blocked/banned from Tardis.

Thanks. Shambala108 (talk) 02:14, November 16, 2016 (UTC)

OK thanks, I thought it would be something like that but wanted to check. Shambala108 (talk) 14:53, November 16, 2016 (UTC)

Sock puppet Edit

Hi I have a question about a user on Tardis. MrSiriusBlack has been posting lately, and when I had to visit his talk page, I found this message from you:

"I am sorry that you felt you couldn't wait for the natural expiry of your ban. Had you done that, you honestly would have been welcomed back with open arms. Instead, you have taken actions which make it impossible for us to allow you to ever come back. With a reasonable degree of certainty, it is now possible to assert your sock puppetry and rather blatant attempt at identity theft."

(To refresh your memory, this ban was for his attempt to impersonate Freethinker1of1.)

Should he still be banned, or was there some kind of amnesty that the admins weren't warned about? Thanks Shambala108 (talk) 15:14, January 16, 2020 (UTC)
